Workplace Bullying as a Risk Factor for Heart Disease
Stress at work is a known risk for many physical and psychological illnesses including heart disease. In fact, Swedish researchers published a study in 2019 showing how workplace bullying rivals diabetes and alcohol as risk factors for heart disease.
This begs the question, "Why don't employers address workplace bullying the way they do other risk factors that increase insurance costs and absenteeism, and reduce productivity?"
Identifying workplace abuse and fixing it results in immediate, tangible benefits for companies. It is costing organizations money, innovation, and productivity. And it’s bad for reputation and image.
