Does the "Pay Your Dues" Mentality Justify Harassment?
Some bosses and organizations take "Pay Your Dues" too far using it as justification for harassing, abusing, or bullying young or new employees.
Where is the line between expecting hard work and extra effort to prove oneself worthy of promotion and a requirement that young, new employees accept abusive treatment as a rite of passage?
Our advice to younger workers if they are wondering whether treatment is reasonable, fair, and equitable: go to a more-senior trusted colleague, friend or relative and ask.
No one should have to endure mistreatment in the name of paying their dues.
