Bullies Make Better News Than Nice Guys
The media not only reported on Scott Rudin's decades-long bullying but almost celebrated it. And, in fact, made money off of it.
"Nice guy making great entertainment" is a boring story. "A--hole making great entertainment" is a compelling story.
And for the Scott Rudins of the world, there is no bad publicity. He reveled in his reputation as a talented jerk.
We can thank The Hollywood Reporter for finally pulling the veil off and telling the true stories of the alleged abuse. Unfortunately, that abuse was hidden in plain sight for decades while being reported by major news publications. The lack of social responsibility is tragic.
